Choosing SandBar in four steps
Start with what's staying
List what won't change: a stone chimney, brick, decking, joinery. NZ Steel pairs SandBar with stone and rich brown timber, so those are the test.
Get a physical sample
NZ Steel warns that on-screen colours vary from the real product. Order a sample and hold it against those materials outdoors, then step back to where you usually see the roof.
Settle the product
Every colour comes in MAXAM, for most of the country including the coast, and ALTIMATE, for extremely severe marine spots near breaking surf. Within 100 metres of salt water, ask COLORSTEEL to confirm the warranty. Geothermal sites need the roofer to check with NZ Steel.
Put it in writing
The quote should name COLORSTEEL, the product and SandBar. Genuine sheets carry the brand on the back, and NZ Steel suggests asking for the warranty.
How warm will a SandBar roof run?
Its TSR, the share of solar heat it sends back, is 48%. That's nearly double Grey Friars at 26%, though well short of Cloud's 69%. The higher the TSR, the cooler the roof.
LRV is 34%, so from the street it reads as a true mid-tone rather than pale. It's a Classic-finish colour only.
Which houses does it suit?
Earthy, warm palettes. A Central Otago home with schist walls, a lifestyle block with brown-stained weatherboards, or a brick bungalow that a cold grey roof would flatten.
Our view on SandBar
We'd shortlist SandBar when a house leans warm and the roof shouldn't fight the stone or timber. If your brief is cool and modern, a grey will sit better. NZ Steel had no part in this page and we're not affiliated with it; we just help you find a roofer.
Want a roofer to take a look?
Tell us the job and your postcode. We match it with a Find My Roofer certified roofer who specialises in that kind of work, and they call you to quote. Your number goes to them alone.
