Find a roofer near youSame rules nationwide. Very different weather.

The building rules are the same right across New Zealand, but the weather your roof deals with isn't. Pick your region for how consent and the national rules work with your council, or your city for the local weather and the jobs that come up most. If your town isn't listed, choose the nearest city or your region.

What changes from place to place

Near the sea, salt is the big one, and it decides which roofing and fixings will last. Wellington's gusty, sideways rain tests flashings, inland places like Hamilton and Taupō get frosty nights and the condensation that comes with them, and around Rotorua geothermal gases are hard on metal. Further south, snow and hail come into it.

Each region page covers its councils and how the national rules on building consent, LBPs and contracts apply there. Each city page goes into the local weather, the housing eras, the jobs that come up most and the suburbs we've written about.

Can you match me with a roofer here?

We're signing up roofers now, so we can't cover every area yet. Every page has local advice either way. If nobody suitable covers your postcode, we'll tell you straight away rather than pass your job to the wrong person.
